Model M-2D

Description:
The Model M-2D microforge is an uniquely designed microforge system employing a joystick operated heating element for two dimensional movement. The joystick sub-assembly provides true rectilinear conversion of hand motions with scale reduction, constraining output motion to a two dimensional plane. The unit is designed to make fine micropipettes by moving a platinum heater next to the micropipette blank. The pipette holder can move the pipette in the x-y-z axes in front of the microscope field and next to the heating element. It can also be rotated 1200 on a calibrated dial to make angular pipettes. The heating element is controlled in the x-y plane by the joystick which has seven times greater motion than the element and is damped in a silicon filled dash pot so that hand tremor does not damage the pipette. A separate lever is provided to move the heater in the z-axis.
The light source has an adjustable iris so that the outline of the glass
pipette shows up clearly under the microscope. A separate power unit has
a variable voltage of 0-2.5 volts for the heating filament and O~ 24 volts
for the light source. This unit is also ideal for glass coating metal microelectrodes.
